Regional microbrewers growing, winning awards

Nine Victorian breweries – many from regional Victoria – shared in a pouring of awards at the prestigious Australian International Beer Awards in a ceremony held at Crown Palladium.

The breadth of quality of the state’s craft beer sector was confirmed as nine Victorian beers from a variety of local craft breweries received Gold Medals during the awards’ judging process.

Among the victors was 2 Brothers’ Voodoo beer, which won the Premier’s Trophy for best Victorian beer. The other gold medallists were:

  • E.S.B (Holgate Brewhouse, Woodend)
  • Temptress (Holgate Brewhouse, Woodend)
  • Chevalier Saison (Bridge Road Brewers, Beechworth)
  • Temple Special Bitter (Temple Brewing Company, Melbourne)
  • Surefoot Stout (Mountain Goat Beer, Richmond)
  • White Rabbit Dark Ale (White Rabbit Brewery, Healesville)
  • Red Hill Brewery Christmas Ale (Red Hill Brewery, Mornington Peninsula).
  • Red Hill Brewery Imperial stout (Red Hill Brewery, Mornington Peninsula).

Thirty Victorian breweries entered and exhibited a total of 223 beers at this year’s Awards which attracted 1170 entries from 243 breweries across 34 countries including Germany, Scandinavia, Denmark, Norway, USA, UK, Belgium, and the Czech Republic.
