Mornington Peninsula dominates 2010 Victorian Tourism Awards

Six tourism businesses win accolades

Mornington Peninsula tourism operations showcased the very high quality and diversity of their visitor experiences when six businesses enjoyed spectacular success in the 2010 Victorian Tourism Awards on November 16.

Mornington Peninsula Tourism won Specialised Tourism Services for the second year in a row, and was the only entrant with a high enough score to become a finalist in this category.

The five other winners were: Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park (Eco Tourism Award), Max’s at Red Hill Estate (Tourism Restaurants and Catering Services Award), Peninsula Hot Springs (Health and Wellness Tourism Award), Ashcombe Maze and Lavender Gardens (finalist in the Tourist Attractions Award) and Frankston Visitor Information Centre (finalist in the Visitor Information and Services Award).

The awards presentation was the highlight of the year for MPT members.

It was a simply spectacular win for the Mornington Peninsula! Never before has our region taken home so many awards. Our operators were competing against Victoria’s best, and we have now proved that this region has attractions which are second to none.

More than 130 Victorian operators entered the 26 business categories, which was a 30 per cent increase on last year. Expenditure in regional Victoria, including the Mornington Peninsula, stood at almost $4 billion for the year ending June 2010, meaning tourism delivers huge benefits to local economies and the job market.
