Pelican Pantry
"A great place to meet... a great place to eat!" Pelican Pantry is mad...
28th June 2011
IMPERIAL STOUT 8.1%
28th June is Stout day around Melbourne.
At the brewery, we have filled some traditional English style casks with Imperial Stout, dry hopped it in the casks, and will be serving this cask conditioned ale from our beer engine handpump, lightly carbonated yet with a lasting and beautiful white head. On tap at the brewery next week.
We have upped the bitterness level slightly and we have made made lots of the black stuff. The beer is Jet Black and one to be savoured. The mouth feel is silky smooth, the nose has roasted malt and a touch of caramel. A rich deep mocha and coffee flavour, is accentuated with caramel and smoky flavours. Our Willamette and Goldings hops were used in 3 additions to create an ale with a big bitterness and an assertive hop character.
Winner of the gold medal 2010 at the Australian Interenational Beer Awards, silver medals in 2011, 09, 08 and 07 plus 4.5 stars, Winestate magazine winter beer tasting... ”lovely seamless integration of coffee, chocolate, sweet roast malt and treacle aromas. Yummy chocolate and coffee flavours back by warming alcohol.”

STOUT FOOD
Always one of our favourite seasons to eat food matched to beer! Try Ox cheek braised in stout, with mushy peas and mash! Chocolate's on the dessert menu of course. And a beautiful cheese selected to match Imperial Stout will also feature. Or just have it for breakfast in your coffee!!!
