The Red Hill Show ‘International Cool Climate Wine Show’ held on 24th and 25th May was a top wine show - Chairman of Judges Mike DeGaris said overall this year’s wines were the highest standard of wines he has judged at the International Cool Climate Wine Show in his time as Chairman since 2008, with more medals and a greater quality.
A total of 678 entries were received from 150 wineries.
Medals Awarded: Gold – 36, Silver – 92, Bronze – 230. Total number of medals 358 or 53% of entries.
The trophies for best wine of the show, best white wine and best chardonnay went to a Mornington Peninsula winery Elgee Park for their 2009 Chardonnay.
Another standout Mornington Peninsula winery to win a trophy was Red Hill Estate as the People’s Choice winner with their Chardonnay 2007.
Wines from the Mornington Peninsula constitute around a 20% of the show, as do each of the Kiwis and the Tasmanians. The remainder are from regional Victoria and cool climate areas throughout Australia.
